For whatever reason he did not like to draw the hat in a front on view and cheated it slightly to the side whenever Popeye turned toward camera. I will put up some frame grabs in an upcoming post.Bob Jaqueshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08227103731900437087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7715125534803085997.post-7822226545024176462010-06-29T15:32:17.102-07:002010-06-29T15:32:17.102-07:00I got this email from Robert Bickert:
"Stuff...I got this email from Robert Bickert:

"Stuff I've noticed in Popeye cartoons animated by Dave Tendlar's unit. (I'm not sure if Tendlar himself was directly responsible for all of them.)

1. Popeye's hat turned sideways.

2. An extra curved line added to Popeye's and Olive's eyes, so they look like a hybrid of a "dot eye" and a "realistic" eye with white and pupil. I've noticed this as late as "All's Fair at the Fair", when Olive is in the balloon.

3. Popeye's torso is longer, compared to the other units."Bob Jaqueshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08227103731900437087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7715125534803085997.post-85499795519286029542010-06-28T13:04:33.166-07:002010-06-28T13:04:33.166-07:00I'll check that out.I'll check that out.Bob Jaqueshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08227103731900437087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7715125534803085997.post-35595232163305060992010-06-28T12:59:28.288-07:002010-06-28T12:59:28.288-07:00IIRC Tendlar also liked long, borderline-cragly fi...IIRC Tendlar also liked long, borderline-cragly fingers on Olive during his time as head animator on the Popeyes while the Fleischer Studio was still in New York.J Leehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15175515543694122729noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7715125534803085997.post-74457021056036211672010-06-28T10:59:24.782-07:002010-06-28T10:59:24.782-07:00Jeff - thanks.
